In Alcoholics Anonymous, we often speak of the gifts of sobriety—peace of mind, freedom from obsession, meaningful relationships. But there’s another gift that becomes especially vivid in times like these: the gift of service.

As preparations for the 2025 A.A. International Convention unfold, the spirit of service is everywhere. Volunteers are showing up—early, late, and in between—organizing, guiding, lifting, and listening. From T-shirt distribution tables to registration areas, from greeters at the doors to quiet helpers behind the scenes, members are giving freely of their time, energy, and hearts.

And they’re doing it not for applause, but because service is how we stay sober.

We come to A.A. for relief. We stay for the connection. And we grow through service. Watching this incredible fellowship come together—one shift, one hug, one task at a time—is a living reminder that we recover together. These volunteers remind us that our primary purpose is not only to stay sober, but to help the next person find the same freedom.

This is what A.A. looks like in action. This is why we stay. This is the privilege we get to share as we celebrate the language of the heart!
